The City's Biggest Pipe is the Biggest Project
Maria Thi Mai
Rain becomes stormwater when it hits the ground. And the rain we hear falling on our roofs are a gentle reminder to what is happening underground; Portland's Big Pipe Project. While this is not new news to most Portlanders, setting up a big tunnel stage in the Opera Plaza parking lot is. This staging area will be playing for the next 6 years as we tunnel 6 miles under the Willamette River's east bank. The next major milestone will be in August when the Swan Island Pump Station goes live and begins pumping sewage from the westside to the City's Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant. Stay tuned.
