When: September 5, 2005
If you've lived in Portland for any period of time, you already know what Fred Meyer is - a department store that sells homegoods, clothes, and grocery; it has a pharmacy, a gardening center, and will most likely have what you need. And this retail giant treats its workers well; they are unionized and paid well when compared to their competitors. Fred Meyer, a subsidiary of Kroger's, is a home-grown Oregon business that has made it big.
