Southeast 82nd, Our "Avenue of Roses"
Warren Jimenez
"This is a genuinely community effort that started with an idea from the business community and has gain the support of the entire neighborhood," stated Sam as he introduced this resolution. City Council passed a resolution today to recognize Southeast 82nd Avenue, within the boundaries of the City of Portland, will be referred to as “82nd Avenue – the Avenue of the Roses”.
"By adding the title of “Avenue of the Roses” to 82nd Avenue," continued Sam, "the City will send a positive message to the broader community by providing a positive identification for 82nd Avenue, while assisting in the transformation of one of the oldest streets in Portland into the new Avenue of the Roses."

Mayor Potter, Members of the Council:
I want to express my strong support for this recognition of the extraordinary effort led by businessman Ken Turner to bring a new
image to 82nd Avenue. Ken has worked for many months to build support
for a variety of changes which will lead real value to the City. He
made early contact with all of the East Portland Neighborhoods, developed a grant proposal to deal with many of the human issues, and has made business leadership into community eadership.
I am very pleased that you are recognizing that significant change can still come from the community and especially, that individuals working together can make real change happen.
I look forward to the next steps Ken will lead in moving 82nd Avenue into its new role as the Avenue of Roses.
Thank you for this public support.

Dieselboi:
Thanks for the trackback. This new monicker for East 82nd avenue will remind us of want we want it to be; East Portlanders deserve to see it improve.
