Cases pit Measure 37 against nature

Here’s a quick public policy quiz. Which is stronger? Measure 37 or Portland’s environmental rules? That’s the question city officials started looking at during a Thursday work session. Aides said commissioners could deny Measure 37 claims that are based on city environmental zones if they determine that the rules protect public health and safety. The rules are designed to reduce the threat of flooding, landslides and fire. A decision that these regulations are immune from the property rights law could embolden other cities to do the same thing and set off a legal showdown between environmental protection and Measure 37. No decisions were made by the council Thursday but the idea seemed to have some support. “I’m very supportive of excluding certain environmentally sensitive areas from Ballot Measure 37,” Commissioner Sam Adams said. “We are playing by the rules, which clearly call for exemptions based on public health or safety.”

Mr. Adams at your lunch meeting (I asked you about the cities obstructive tactics re: Measure 37 claims.I'm on my way to city hall right now to hand deliver aditional items for my claim. This will be my 5th try. Also I find it interesting but not surprised you admitted to "living in N. Port".(probably on a 5000sq ft lot),that you "voted No on 37", and that you had not bother to read what it says.and that "you were just following instructions from the city attorney". As an ellected official you might want to take the time and read what 61% of the voters voted for and spread the word that city hall is not doing a very good job of following the very clear will of the people!
