Roland Chlapowski
Policy Analyst & Assistant Liaison to Transportation
Roland Chlapowski works on transportation-related issues with the Portland Department of Transportation (PDOT) as an assistant liaison to Tom Miller and also assists Warren Jimenez with economic analysis and policy issues. Roland grew up in the Boston area and moved to Portland to attend Reed College. There, he was active in community service, environmental activism, and student government. He also worked in the Reed Admission Office and was an economics, math, and biology tutor at the school's Quantitative Skills Center. He recently graduated from Reed with a bachelor’s degree in economics, and came to love Portland so much that he now calls it home.
Interested in environmental issues, public health, economic and social policy, Roland wrote his thesis on the economics of quality of life. He has also written several editorials regarding same-sex marriage that have been published in both Portland and Boston , and he worked for an Oregon get-out-the-vote campaign in 2004 election cycle. Now he lends his energies to furthering Sam’s economic development and transportation goals.
When not in the office, Roland is an avid reader, a news junkie, nature enthusiast, vegetarian gastronome, and collector of vintage furniture. Roland resides with his partner, Logan, and their dog (a miniature Pomeranian) Dutch, in North Portland's Mississippi Neighborhood.
