East-side businesses feel left out

"More than 100 people — including city Commissioner Sam Adams — crowded into the April 20 open house at the rapidly growing East Portland Chamber of Commerce. Formed just two years ago, the chamber already has 140 members, eight of whom joined last week.  “Small businesses are excited to have a platform for doing business together,” said President Timothy Brunner, an architect. “It’s been beyond our wildest dreams how we’ve grown. We’ve tried to really focus on our members and their needs.” Members range from Classique Floors on Southeast Stark Street to Adventist Medical Center on Southeast Market Street. Brunner said the East Portland Chamber sees itself as complementary to, not competitive with, the powerhouse Portland Business Alliance. However, he said, east-side business owners gets short shrift from the PBA..."
