Bendupree Ben DuPree joined Sam Adams’ office in June, 2005. He works under Warren Jimenez on issues pertaining to the workplace, economy, and public relations.

Ben was born in Los Angeles to Michael and Martha DuPree and spent his first 18 years there. He is currently a student at Reed College, where he majors in English literature and creative writing and is preparing for his senior year. Ben is currently Reed’s Student Body President, and has also both served on Reed’s Student Senate and edited its student newspaper, The Quest. Ben’s academic interests are American literature, especially frontier literature of California, and prose fiction writing. In the future, Ben hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in English while dedicating his spare time to political service and progressive political causes.

After becoming involved at Reed on multiple levels, Ben decided that it was time to give back to the city of Portland. Always active in politics—he worked for the Democratic National Committee as a Field Manager last summer—he decided that the best way to become involved was in the hub of Portland politics: city hall. Diving in, he attended numerous council meetings and began to learn what issues concerned Portland. He was attracted first to Sam’s office because of its progressive nature and dedication to Portland’s businesses, workers, and residents. While not working in Sam’s office, Ben works for Reed’s News and Publications Department as a Student Intern.

Ben lives in Southeast Portland with his significant other of a few years, Melelani, and their two fluffy, wonderful cats, Huckleberry and Muffins.
