Max Thorn Coffman

Max2007Max2007Max uses his policy and data analysis skills to support Sam and Roland on special transportation projects. He grew up in Houston, Texas, and wants to help keep Portland as different from Houston as possible. His educational experience includes international relations, sustainable development and urban planning. He speaks mediocre Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, and is always looking for patient language partners.

He has been named a USDOT Outstanding Student of the Year, a finalist for the Prsidential Management Fellowship, recipient of the ITS Oregon 2007 Scholarship, and a Fellow of the Eno Leadership Development Conference.

about the plastic bags...

i think getting rid of them completely is a good idea for our environment. what i would like to see though are the reusable canvss/cloth bags, maybe the city gives them out for free or a lot cheaper. maybe just cheaper at first, as an awareness, everyone get happy about our new idea, kind of a thing.
because if paper bags are not much better, and seem actually to contribute to a lot of different aweful things, i, as a grocery shopper, would like to use canvass bags instead. and yet i, as a poor, single mother, can't always afford plopping down $10 for a reusable bag if i forget mine at home. (or to get one for the first time, really).
also, at my house, i reuse the plastic bags i get from the grocery sotre as garbage bags to cut out the cost there. i would like to know that what i'm putting back into the earth is a friendly as humanly possible.
