Fed Ex Expands in Portland

Last Thursday, I spoke on Sam’s behalf at the groundbreaking for the new FedEx Freight service center in NE Portland. The center will add 44 new dock doors to Portland’s freight capacity. I introduced Keith Lovetro, the president and CEO of FedEx Freight West, based in San Jose, California.

FedEx Freight has operated in Portland since 1983, opening their current facility on East 13th Avenue in 1990. They have since outgrown that facility, in response to constant growth and innovation in the Portland area. FedEx Freight operates out of 330 service centers worldwide, and is the leading U.S. provider of next-day and second-day less-than-truckload (LTL) freight services. As one of the most trade-dependent regions in the entire country, this city needs the unfaltering support of dedicated businesses such as FedEx Freight, who make commitments to quality and efficiency.

The new service center will be 110,000 square feet, and will allow the company to have a total of 128 dock doors in Portland. It will create job opportunities to staff the new service center, and offer the room FedEx Freight needs to grow in our region. The groundbreaking was a major step in the development of the company’s expansion, and will be an excellent addition to Portland’s freight industry.

There are many such instances of name-play throughout the text, leading to the creation of a picture which, although held up in all seriousness by its describer, is constantly (though mildly) belittled by the purposefully playful nature of the language that names its features. Hence the practical reason cannot contain, in reference to such an object, an absolute prohibition of its use, because this would involve a contradiction of external freedom with itself. his postulate may be called "a permissive law" of the practical reason, as giving us a special title which we could not evolve out of the mere conceptions of right generally.
