New Site Design

Hello everyone,
As you have probably noticed by now, we have just upgraded our website. You can read more about the changes at your Latest Updates page or the Site Information page. Please let us know what you think and if you find anything broken.

Thanks!

Nicely done!

It's much easier to read: better font and wider columns.

If only ideology could be redesigned with similar ease and certainty.

like the upgrades too

I just am finding the updated pages for the first time,
like the addition of the portland photo's open to public.always liked Sam's picture page too as it was
partly a inspiration to one of my own projects

Love it!

I love the new design. Sam, you and your team are always on the e-cutting edge.

Wow

Ah, very pretty. I appreciate how hard you all work, even on the little things. It's the mark of dedication which I greatly appreciate.

Broken RSS feed

It seems since the site upgrade the old RSS feed no longer works. I typically visit the posts through my "live bookmark" and for a few days assumed that the site was not being updated when, in fact, it was. Now that I see the new site I will update my live bookmark but you should be aware that not all your users may realize this problem.

Fixed

Hi James,
Thanks for letting me know! The old link now forwards to the new RSS feed so that shouldn't be a problem anymore.

RSS shortening & subjects

I don't like that now I have to click "read more" on the RSS feed to load my browser and come to the web site to read the whole article.

I also don't like the subject entries. It seems to take the first few words of an entry if left blank. So if someone replies to an entry with their name first, it gets really confusing as to who is writing and who it's to.

Otherwise good job.

I'll see what I can do

Issac,
I have changed the 'Recent comments' section on the right hand side to instead show author information instead of the subject. Does this help?

I'm looking into modifying the RSS feed. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks for your input,
-Michael

Recent comments

The recent comments on the front page should give the commentor's name rather than the subject name. It also needs a "remember me" button on the comments part.

Done and done

Isaac,
Both changes have been implemented. Hope that helps.
Thanks again for the feedback,
-Michael

Thanks Michael, that was

Thanks Michael, that was fast.

Looks good

I like that the pages render faster and that the color/layout scheme improves readability. Threaded comments are nice, too.

Any chance of getting an additional RSS feed that lists recent article comments?

Hopefully

Clay,
As I mentioned above, I'm looking into modifying the RSS feed(s). Hopefully I'll be able to add a comment feed.
Thanks,
-Michael

Updates

Hey everyone,
A quick note. I fixed the quirks that were causing Firefox to goof on the posts with a large number of comments so we can finally get rid of the multiple pages of commnets and have everything on the same page. This will also fix the latest comments links on the right-hand side.

My next step is to look into customizing the RSS feeds.

Please keep the comments coming!
Thanks,
-Michael
