Sam Nominates Scott Andrews to PDC Board

"Scott has a distinguished history of providing successful leadership on complex issues that matter to Portlanders," said Mayor-Elect Adams. "Scott's experience and knowledge of development finance, market dynamics, and commercial real estate will bring to the City's development agency a skill set that it has not had in more than a decade. Additionally, his integrity, commitment and interest in economic development for the public good will be invaluable assets in advancing PDC's mission and work."

City Council unanamously approved Mayor-Elect Sam Adams and Mayor Tom Potter nomination of Scott Andrews to commissioner on the Portland Development Commission board this morning.

Andrews' term begins immediately. He fills one of two seats being vacated by the retirements of PDC Chairman Mark Rosenbaum and Commissioner Sal Kadri.

Andrews will join Charles Wilhoite, Bertha Ferran and John Mohlis on the five-person PDC Commission, which is made up of volunteers nominated by the mayor to serve three-year terms. The Board oversees the City's semi-autonomous economic development agency, which focuses on neighborhood revitalization, housing and job creation.

Andrews is the President of Melvin Mark Properties, a full service commercial real estate brokerage firm with strong ties to commercial development and tenant services. Andrews grew up in Portland, attended the University of Oregon and joined Melvin Mark Properties as a leasing agent in 1978, having received his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Graduate School of Business.

Andrews serves on the Board of Directors for LifeWorks Northwest, the Portland Business Alliance, Oregon Sports Authority and is president of Mall Management, Inc. Andrews is the past President of the Multnomah Athletic Club, past President and Chairman of the Board of the Oregon Sports Authority; served as Chair of the Portland Business Alliance; and has served on the Board of Directors for Cystic Fibrosis, Planned Parenthood and the Portland Youth Soccer Association.

Additionally, Andrews serves as Chairman of the Regional Business Plan Steering Committee, which brings together businesses from throughout the four-county Portland-Vancouver metropolitan region to build, lead, and carry out a common plan for long-term economic prosperity and global competitiveness. The primary mission of this effort is "quality jobs for the people of this region."

Andrews and his wife, Linda, have two adult sons, Peter and Paul.

Great another developer buddy

Mr Adams when are you going to appoint people who look out for the common man instead of people who want to make the developers richer.

How can you go to the public with a straight face and tell us you want to fix roads and schools meanwhile you are appointing everyone you can to PDC who will want to build more condos downtown? Does anyone there care about anything outside of downtown?

I hope he helps you with your next pet project that taxpayers will fund.

Thanks for giving us the finger once again

I live a few blocks from 82nd avenue. While you idiots in city hall continue to pour every urban renewal dollar you can lay your greedy hands on into downtown - it just continues getting worse and worse out here. Sam, have you ever actually come out east past the Hawthorne district?? Didn't think so. If there's an area of our fair city that is blighted, this is it. And you keep making it worse and worse by vacuuming up property taxes to spend building downtown condos and high-end retail for rich immigrants from california. Meanwhile, there's not a cop to be found within miles of here, at least not when you really need one. All because you keep stoking the ur machine for your rich real estate buddies downtown. You've shown your true colors by appointing this one to pdc. Thanks a million.

Good Choice

I believe it is a good choice. A good real estate mind is long over due on PDC board.

All the same

I wish pols would look after the people and not themselves.
