The first bike box was installed on the intersection of SE 7th and Hawthorne yesterday. The Oregonian has a video all about it.

I thought the first bike box at 39th and Clinton was the very first bike box in Portland. Make up your mind. What is the first bike box in Portland? Can't we ever get a straight answer from the Adams cult? I know 39th and Clinton was long before 7th and Hawthorne. Whats wrong with the bike box at 39th and Clinton? Drink the Kool Aid. » reply

More public dollars wasted by Sam
The vast majority of bicyclists who ride through the streets of Portland, routinely, arrogantly and knowingly violate traffic laws and ignore traffic control devices such STOP signs and red lights. These laws and control devices are intended for the safety of everyone, yet Sam continues to look the other way and continues to support the current bicycle mayhem. Instead of recommending stepping up police patrols and enforcement on out of control bicyclists, Sam would rather create more chaos by wasting public dollars on bike boxes that will only give freeloading pedal pushers both a sanctuary and an additional opportunity to continue their practice of ignoring and violating traffic laws while creating more friction with drivers who pay directly pay transportation taxes that pay for the roads. For Sam to suggest the installation of bike boxes will provide an additional safety factor for the pedal pushers only brings into question the divisiveness and honesty of his own integrity. In that Sam has proposed and supports a plan for narrowing the traffic lanes on upper West Burnside to the unsafe width of 10 feet wide - less than the width of TriMet busses, large trucks and many other vehicles that use the street - he has lost all integrity when it comes to preaching his brand of street safety rhetoric. .
