A positive city audit shows that BES has strengthened its construction contract management process using recommendations from the last city audit, which was done in 1998.
The audit letter complimented BES, sharing that "This report is unusual in that our findings are favorable, and it contains no recommendations for improvement." The report also acknowledges the positive steps taken by BES since the 1998 audit and thanks the bureau for their cooperation and assistance.
Changes that have happened since 1998 include creating a manual for managing contracts, conducting independent audits and adding new software tools to help track project status and cost. These improvements have helped BES to complete almost half of the construction projects at the bid amount or less, which in turn helps keep rate-payers costs down. Great job BES!
