In January 2008, the state will begin granting same sex couples the legal benefits of marriage, benefits heterosexual couples have long enjoyed. LGBT couples and families will find comfort in the recognition the law provides.
The victory for the GLBT community of Oregon's Domestic Partnership Law is especially sweet, due to the fact that Oregon is the only state that has granted partnership benefits after a statewide constitutional amendment denying same sex couples the right to "marry."
Sam has worked on this issue for most of his political life and lobbied the legislature to recognize the relationships of LGBT people.
