BTA Bike to Work Challenge: And the Winner is.......
There were so many outstanding showings this year. Of course the winners in each of the categories were impressive, but when I scanned the results I found some terrific stories. I have to mention National College of Natropathic Medicine, Community Cycling Center was pretty stellar, with their first place position for bike shops with 22 employees logging 368 trips! New Seasons Arbor Lodge was a winner in the Businesses over 100 employees with a 53.8% participation rate. What was also nice to see in that category was First Alternative Co-op in Corvallis coming in third with 101 employees logging 536 trips and a participation rate of 37.6 %. While it is an honor just to be mentioned, it does feel great to win. Posted Mon, 10/08/2007 - 9:57am.

death of cyclist on Burnside
I urge you to take steps to make cycling safer in Portland following the tragic death of Tracey Starling last week. My two sons and their friends, or whom Tracey was one, all bike to PSU through dowtown Portland on a daily basis.
Could video cameras be mounted on large trucks with screens in the cabs so the driver could check his "blind spots" before a turn? Could such a system be made mandatory in Portland?
Could Portland develop a stop light system, as in many European cities, that allow bicyclists to move across intersections before cars and trucks?
Could more be done to promote driver and bicyclist safety awarness in Portland?
Thank you for your attention,
Stan Shadle
