[0]Happy Bike CommutersToday's bike to work challenge [1]breakfast stop was a huge success. It was great to meet neighbors and friends on the side of the road for some java and jawboning. We had over 100 folks stop by and chat with us on the first official Monday of autumn. Even with the chill in the air the bike commuters were happy to be on their bicycles, rather then in cars or buses.
My commuting by bike started a year ago with the challenge and [1]Community in the bike lane.I am a total convert. I love getting to work ready to work alert and having interacted with the city on my way in.
The challenge is just one of the reasons ridership in Portland is up. Portland has seen a 145% increase in bike ridership since 1996, equaling 4.4% [1]of workers bike to work. If you are not on your bike yet, maybe it is time to try it. Check out the options department at PDOT to find out more about how to get around or the BTA [2] to learn more about safe biking in Portland.
