Roger Geller's Takeaway from the National Bike Summit in D.C.

Here's what Roger Geller, Bicycle Coordinator for the Portland Department of Transportation, took away from the 2007 National Bike Summit over the Ides of March in Washington D.C. Highlights include creative funding strategies for bicycle initiatives and information on bike programs from a legislative POV.

The NYMBY syndrome contunues

Left out of the funding mechanisms and proposals is that bicyclists should be self-taxed and pay their own way to provide bicycle infrastructure rather than freeloading and poaching funds off the rest of society. Apparently the NYMBY syndrome that bicyclists themselves should not be required accept financial responsibility for their demands is perverted beyond Oregon’s borders.

The run on sentence continues

Terry,

Your ability to write run on sentences with overblown rhetoric continues as well. Sadly, we have to read it. At least Roger is out there doing something positive in the world!

Bikes

In many cities bicyclists must have a required licence plate on their bikes. The costs vary from place to place.

Which cities?

John,

Do you have a list or know what cities, counties, states, countries, etc require bicyclists to have a license plate on their bikes?. If so please post.

Thanks,

Terry
