I-5 Bridge

I do not believe that there is any evidence that a visually pleasing bridge is necessarily more costly than whatever purely utilitarian designs might be imagined by other writers. A poorly functioning bridge, or a costly bridge is not a result of being conscious of how a bridge looks. Those would be results of NOT being conscious of function or budget. I am not aware of the Tram's cost overrun being caused by making it look as good as possible.
