Bus commuting is commendable

The purpose of the bicycle commuter challenge was not to endorse the fastest modes of transportation but to dismiss the myth that bicycle commuting will inevitable be a more time-consuming trip. Of course, driving may be more time efficient than some forms of mass transit, but we encourage you to remember the money saved on gas and insurance (if you do not actually own a car) as well as the avoided carbon emissions when riding mass transit.

Furthermore, Commissioner Adams continues to push for the development of more efficient mass transit options in the city of Portland, including east side streetcars and express bus routes, while continuing to allocate time and money to basic transportation needs (including road maintenance). As Transportation Commissioner, Sam is working on behalf of constituents, not special interest groups, when developing policy that improves safety, time and economic efficiency, the environmental health of the region, and the personal health of constituents.
