Cycling infrastructure helps all Portland residents
First, many who ride bikes also own a car, pay tax, etc. so the idea that there's freeloading involved is simply fiction.
While bad seeds exist, there are plenty of law abiding cyclists who are simply choosing to avoid the expense and impact of driving. As a cyclist, I cringe when I see an inconsiderate cyclist as they give me a bad name. Just as you cannot control someone who is speeding in their car, I cannot control others actions.
For the motorist, more cyclists means more open parking spaces and not as much motor traffic clogging surface streets. So whether you want cycling infrastructure to keep your bike commute safe and civilized or you want your motorized commute to be quick and easy we all benefit from this.
The most cost effective way to keep our streets moving is to support getting people out of their cars. It's a real bargain. It's truly a win-win if one looks at the big picture.
Sam has the right idea. I pay taxes (plenty of them, believe me) and I want the boxes.
