Glad to see progress on this
Glad to see progress on this project. Its located on a corner, Fremont & Williams, where PDOT staff recently recommended eliminating on-street parking to insure the free flow of auto traffic north on Williams and east on Fremont, contrary to everything we say we are doing to create safe and multi-modal streets.
I hope that plan will be tabled and replaced with one that reflects the transformation that is occuring. That streetscape plan should eliminate the right turn lane to Fremont, should add parking, should reduce crossing distances with curb extensions, including one for the 40 bus. Even with all these changes, motor vehicles will still have two lanes northbound on Williams, which is plenty.
PS this project is in the Interstate Urban Renewal Area, so there should be TIF funds available to insure good urban design of the street, if not to add to affordability of the proposed units, if the developer so desires.
